In September 2018 Women In Film & TV -Ohio saw its first official meeting of with its Board of Directors. The first agenda was brought forth with the election of its first Executive Board. At that same meeting its Board of Directors, By-Laws, Articles of Incorporation and various other policies and procedures were introduced and approved. In October, WIFT-Ohio came together to elect the Director of Programming and discuss membership structure and costs. As November rolled around the agenda consisted of financial business, setting up bank accounts, Executive Board members and Board of Directors paying their dues, as well as discussions on what realistic programs and offerings could be made to begin membership, membership implementation, t-shirt roll-out and the call for filling our final Director position among others. As the holidays came around WIFT-OH registered with the State of Ohio to operate officially in the state. December was also the perfect time to begin our Inaugural Membership Drive! What a great success! Women who signed up for a year’s membership in the month of December, became known as our Founding Members. December also saw the creation of our website which is still under construction but is operational and has basic content. We are working hard to make our website informational, easy to use and fun! I want to welcome all of you for taking such an important step to help support our mission to advance women in all screen industries. That brings us to January. Wow! Did you know?

WIF began in Los Angeles in 1973 by Tichi Wilkerson Kassell while she was a publisher and editor-in-chief of The Hollywood Reporter? She knew how limited opportunities were for women in the entertainment industry and was determined to change that. The goal for the organization was to create an organization that has great potential for growth. Her intent was to focus a new spotlight on individuals among the organization in order to strengthen each other. She saw the opportunity to provide a means of profiling individual success, as well as combining WIF’s voices to assure greater recognition of individual efforts.

One of the ways she did this is via the Crystal Awards and Lucy Awards which showcase members achievement in film, TV and other New Media.

“WIFT-OH is dedicated to the advancement of women in film, tv & new media.”
